LOL this shit... I know what this is, it's done by some religious people on that All Saints' Day, the depressing thing after Halloween. The C + B + M stands for the names of these saints, "Caspar", "Balthasar" and something else, and then the year... they better never write that on my door.

My gf tells me that this is been done on january the 7th, by kids on "three kings day", dressed as the kings Caspar, Balthasar and Melchior, with the year and it's a blessing to your family and your home for one year, until the next january 7th

Oh you're right Cave, I messed the dates up. They use pre-printed stickers instead of chalk sometimes now :/

I wonder - hasn't this washed off for 12 years or did they write multiple years? I see 1997, 2000, 95, 19??, 19??, 1993, 19??, 2001, 2002 (and this picture was taken in 2005)

Wow, Hirnduebel sure got it wrong originally. It's supposed to mark a rather joyous time after Christmas, not on that depressing day after Halloween. My family does it as well. The chalk used is blessed at church.
