the early Starfighters were a nightmare... they had a condition where they would stabilize in a stalled condition, later called a super stall. Recovery was impossible in this condition. Between that and a downward ejection seat on the pre-'C' versions, this plane was very interesting.

In fact, the original 'nickname' of the Pre 'C' version Starfighters was 'the widowmaker'.

the C-F versions fixed all the original problems.. The Starfighter went on to serve in most of the NATO air forces up until the late 1980's.
