From a distance it looks like a nice carpet.

With this 'carpet', it's a good idea to keep your distance!

Rural pigeons ought to be okay though, maybe...?

Probably but you just don't want to take chances.

No, not with what they carry. :-!

You got it! I worked at an animal sanctuary years ago, had numerous birds as pets and have heard of what various nasty diseases birds can carry. Of course, I'll still have a bird for a pet (got a cockatiel at this point) 'cause they really crack me up with their antics!

I only heard about the sexually transmitted diseases (transferrable to humans) they carry, what else?
Posted by rainman8889 7/31/2005 6:10 PM | remove
For example, another disease (if I remember correctly called psiticoccus sp?) that can be carried through their feces (it dries, goes to dust and the viral spores are transmitted via air currents. Just be careful around their feces and when handling any bird, always wash your hands thoroughly.

That's why guano is double dangerous. The dust itself is dangerous (same way as asbestos or mine dust) and the viruses are dangerous as well.
