Ahh a Carter siren! They've been making sirens for years, through WWII and then into the Cold War. That was probably rather expensive when it was new.

I'm happy to see they spared no expense. :-) I bet something like this would be worth money as a period piece today.

Well I deal in Cold War/Royal Observer Corps items and you find the hand held Carter air-raid sirens go for anywhere around the £200-250 mark. New they cost around £500.

That's just a wee one though, but still a well respected make if you're in the siren business!

  Can I have a skill?

Does it come with a special ring that creates something almighty when we come together and point them in the air?

You do have a skill. You can climb like a rat up a drain pipe! :-D

I think you with your mochasins would own Jester in his tabis any day! ;-)

$50!!! Tell me which eBay you're browsing 'coz the last carter siren I tried to get went over the $200 mark (in GBP).

  What's so special about 'em?
Posted by purplegrum 7/31/2005 10:02 AM | remove
The hand cranked ones used during WWII/Cold War are becoming harder and harder to come by, hence the price. A new Klaxon siren costs about £500 - they're just expensive.

They also cure cancer and convert greenhouse gases into water.

Perhaps worth the £500 then! I need one for my Post and I was just quoted a price there of around £300.

Who'd a thought it. So much interest in a lil ol siren on the wall?

I just bought a 12 volt version off an old firetruck. It's under my hood now. It only cost me $45.00
