Location DB > Canada > Ontario > Markham > 9th Line Abandoned House #2 > fedge and IanK1968's third visit: April 17, 2005 > 9thlineB09.JPG

9 / 10   9thlineB09.JPG

Description
Just like the 9th Line abandoned house #1, the basement of #2 features a portable heater that's plugged into a live outlet. The heater works and was hot to the touch from recent use. Very strange for a house that was 100% stealthly boarded up!

Don't some of those heaters work off a thermostat where they operate on and off when it's cold or hot enough? They're probably trying to keep the damp out or something.

Maybe this place wasn't quit abandoned fully?

Since they're both exactly the same I would use logic to reckon that they were put there by the developer for some reason known only to people in the elite community of developers.

It was probably put there to keep the water pipes from bursting.

And when you look at the heater, you can see that they put in new wiring for recepticles and other stuff.

Good call, Ishi... if the owner doesn't want to take care of it now, he/she definitely doesn't want to have to deal with frozen/burst pipes.

I was under the understanding that developers can no longer demolish century homes in Markham area and have to move them in order to develop the land. This can be seen currently at the SW corner of Steeles and Markham road
