This place is big! As George aged he obviously regressed to using only a very small part of the home. It became "abandoned" with him inside. If I hadn't known he died in 2017 I would have sworn it had been empty for 20+years!

This was the estate of the Davis family. They were the only family who ever lived here. The family owned one of the largest mills in Charleston and it served the entire state. There were six children. George the youngest was the last one and died here at age 90. He had studied to be a Catholic Priest but returned home to run his families business. He never married and lived alone here the rest of his life. At one time this was a grand estate. There was the main house, numerous gardens, a second house, 3 barns, a pigeon house, and a pond. This place is on an extremely busy intersection but sits back far enough that its true size is hard to determine when you drive by. Thousands of people drive by it every day!
