This power plant was built in 1948 as part of the Rural Electrification Act of 1936 which was enacted on May 20, 1936, provided federal loans for the installation of electrical distribution systems to serve isolated rural areas of the United States.

Following the modernization of the power grid, these smaller stations became obsolete and many only served as substations. This station served as a substation until 2003 when a modern substation was built next-door by the REA's local successor company: Alliant Energy.

The building was sold to a local resident who used the building for storage, but allowed it to fall into severe disrepair.
