Enormous brick structure with four full floors plus a basement and attic. Each floor is laid out with a main hallway running the course of the building and one wing at each end of the building. Two interior collapses make it a difficult building to navigate. Remnants of the poorhouse, Bible college and haunted house all remain inside. There are several different stories from the poorhouse and Bible college days about the building and grounds being haunted, something the haunted house capitalized on. Parts of the building are weak, unstable or collapsed.

Built in 1875, the Knox County Poorhouse was constructed to house people who could not afford anywhere else to live. Many of the residents were elderly people or children with mental illnesses dropped off by their parents. It was rumored that care provided to residents was substandard, causing multiple deaths. According to rumor, some of these residents were later discovered in unmarked graves around the property. In 1953, the poorhouse closed due to questionable structural integrity. Mt. Vernon Bible College was the next occupant of the building, moving in after repairs were made to the structure in 1957. Students lived in dormitories on the top floors and attended classes in the building. Another rumor about the building describes an elevator crash in which several female students were killed and now supposedly haunt the building. The fact that the building never actually had an elevator debunks this rumor. In 1988, the Bible college moved to Virginia, leaving the building abandoned for the second time. The final use of the building was a haunted house attraction known as the House of Nightmares. Beginning in the mid-90s, the House of Nightmares utilized the basement and first floor of the building each October. In 2006, the building suffered a large interior collapse after which the haunted house was forced to relocate. A second portion of the building collapsed in 2012. Burned on June 26, 2015. Appears as if there isn't much left.
