 Overview
 Description
A mothballed power plant just outside of Borger, TX. The lights are still on inside and outside and the location is frequented by servicemen as it is kept in running order in case it needs to be used. There are 3 levels above ground and a basement, along with some underground duct bank/tunnels and maintenance buildings. All entrances are secured with angle iron and padlocks and the windows are welded over with iron mesh. A very active substation for the city of Borger is situated adjacent to the plant and due to copper theft in the area, has proximity sensors in the fences and cameras.

     History
Built in 1926, this gas turbine generating station was built by Panhandle Power and Light Company to supply electricity to the oil fields, allowing them to drill at night. A small town also grew around the plant, which many houses still stand on the surrounding property, all in various states of disrepair. As power grids grew and bigger and more modern power plants were brought online the plant was mothballed and is now used by Southwest Public Service/Xcel Energy as a backup source of power.

     Future Plans
In 2013 the gas turbine is slated to be moved to Tucumcari, NM to be used as a backup generator. The building will likely be demolished.
