 Overview
 Description
A huge building (part of a complex) that used to make tar paper. The machinery is still intact, there is a laboratory, a kitchen, offices, mechanical rooms, multiple floors (including an awesome but flooded basement), and an easily accessible roof. On the property nearby, there's awesome stuff to climb to get an amazing view of downtown Winnipeg.
The basement that the ramp in the back of the property leads to has motion sensors that sounds a loud alarm.

     History
Built sometime during World War 2 on a site that, despite being in central Winnipeg, had escaped development until then. It was a paperplant for making tar paper and later a soap plant in a separate building (see "Soap Tar Land"). Sometime in the late 90s, a sewer collapsed that was owned by the cities and the company wasn't informed - that resulted in massive amounts of chemicals leached into the ground and river, resulting in a massive fine being levied on the owner. The owner took it to court and had been fighting it ever since. As a result, the factory shut down and fell into a state of decay.

The papermill has been abandoned completely (although still has power and fire suppression).

Apparently the fire suppression wasn't as good as one would hope; on October 16th, 2011, it was destroyed by a major fire. See the Media Coverage section.

     Future Plans
At this point, it's probably going to sit vacant or fall over. The building next to it ("soap tar land") is being restored and seems to be used as an office / storage building.
