It is off to the side of a well used walking trail. In front of the ruins there is a small park with a couple of benches. All that is left now is stone foundations surrounded by an iron gate next to a small creek. It was once part of a 5000+ acre facility and there are historical society signs all over the surrounding neighborhood explaining the different areas of the facility.

It's OLD! There's not much to see, but I enjoyed my trip there.

Originally built in 1863 as the Cahaba Ironworks and was later renamed Irondale Furnace, it was destroyed by the Fourth Iowa Veteran Volunteers in March of 1865 and rebuilt in 1866. Much of the cast iron trim still adorning the exteriors of buildings in the French quarter of New Orleans was made here.

Part of a park, so I imagine it'll be there until it dissolves into the ground.
