The city has started condemning buildings, but the residents are putting up a very passionate fight against demolition and their right to life. On April 1, 2010 they put up a very great stand, blocking construction equipment with their own bodies. Off of the main street you can find a large concentration of protest banners, as well as a tent set up with resident/activists inside. The area contains pretty much any type of city building you can imagine in Korea; day cares, apartments, houses, a hospital, various businesses, motels, and more. Because of the delicate political nature of the area, tread very carefully. These are people being thrown out of homes by their city. And a note on the wandering police: Recently there was the very major case of the rape/murder of a young girl down in Busan. The events happened in an abandoned area and the culprit was later found living inside an abandoned house. There are many young people in this area and the police are working with the residents to ensure that the area remains safe.
