Spanish mission style public school building erected in 1912. Covers roughly 3000-4000 square feet, so not very big. Exterior is red brick covered in a white stucco or adobe mold. Building consists of two sections: the school and an auditorium. Building sites in an open field between two farm houses.

Neat Spanish mission kind of architecture. Striking white facade for its age. Don't bother trying to look around inside; the building is boarded up tight.

dogs wooden boarding Neighbors directly across the street keep an eye on the place. For what they're worth there are at least a dozen "No Trespassing" signs all over the property

I was unable to find out much about this particular building, but what I know is that it was a public school building built in the early 1900s when that particular area (Sugarland) was all plantations and farmland. A few locals speculated that the school was primarily for children of black and migrant farm workers and laborers in that area, but I have no confirmation of that. I tried researching it, but Google came up with nothing. The best bet to getting authentic information is to go to the county seat in Richmond where there is a historical museum of the area.

Oct. 2015 - The property has been in probate for about 6 months. The family that owned this also owns most of the town including an old plantation home across the railroad tracks (beautiful place!). One of the locals said that there have been people trying to buy the property and turn the school into a winery.
