What remains of the plant isn't all that large. It's about three stories high but only comprised of the ground floor and the roof. Nothing much on the roof but a great view of the walmart or whatever built behind it.

What I have been able to find so far is as follows: In 1914, the Vereen Family (and possiblely some other investers) started the Moultrie Packing Company and built the building. In 1917, Swift purchased the Moultrie Packing Company. As a side note, the Vereen Family is an old local Southern Family and their name is on all kinds of stuff around here. As for the Packing, well, the High School mascot is a Packer(hog). Anyway, the facility had an elongated stock yrad along the rear by the railroad tracks. In 1970, Swift built a new facilty, then shortly there after, sold the new facility. At some point, the old facility was purchased by a group of three or four local men. One of which is Major Adderton, whom I do know personally. At some point in the early to mid 90's Aderton became the sole owner. in 1996 he began dismanteling the building with the intent of selling the bricks. There after, asspestos was found in the building, so the Government stopped Adderton from further dismanteling of the building, at least until the asbestos could be removed in compliance with E.P.D./E.P.A. rules. In the mean time, the City started putting pressure on Adderton to do something about this "eye sore" at the "front of town". Finally, the City gave him the utimatum of "clean it up" or "we will, and send you the bill". Adderton offered the property to the City for $1.00 and they took it. Some how, the City got a grant to pay for the removal of the building in accordance with E.P.D./E.P.A. rules. As I said before, if memory serves me correctly, It still ended up being after the year 2000 before the actual work resumed to remove the building. I don't remeber the who story, but some how, the smoke stack and boiler house still survive to this day.
