     History
Denver Public Schools' Metropolitan Youth Education Center offered a flexible schedule, small classes, and a broad range of courses to help high school dropouts earn diplomas. It was also a school formed to respond to a court order for school desegregation. Opened sometime around 1977, and closed in 1991. Building has been vacant since then. 41,950 square feet of pure abandonment!

    ---------------

The site was originally developed as a US Army medical depot in the early 1940's.

Then in 1951 it was transferred to the US Air Force and used as an accounting & finance center.

The building itself was built in 1962.

In 1977, the property was conveyed to Denver Public Schools.

Then in 1991, DPS returns the site back to the Federal Government.

In 1998 the property was quitclaimed to Denver Urban Renewal Authority for $1, yes, ONE DOLLAR.

From 1998 to present day has been a huge jumble of leases, joint interest, revitalizing plans & defaulted loans between Denver Urban Renewal Authority, Inner-City Community Development Corporation, Office of Economic Development & North Denver Industrial, LLC.

Assessor page currently lists North Denver Industrial II, LLC as the owner.
