 Overview
 Description
Filling quite a bit of space in downtown Green Bay the building itself is not very spectacular. The inside was known for its neon lights and skylights that lit the place during the day.

     History
The Port Plaza Mall opened in 1977 on 7 acres of land in the heart of downtown Green Bay. It at one time had 120 stores including 3 anchors, The Boston Store, JCPenny and H.C. Prange(which had been open since the 1920s and then bought by Younkers, which was demod last year..see my DB entry on it).

The mall pretty much ended up being the place for juveniles to pace around and smoke cigarettes in when skipping school. It was known for its neon lights that lit up the inside along with the skylights. Towards the end of the 90s the stores started to slowly close and by the end of 2002 it was pretty much a dead mall.

It was renamed to The Washington Commons in 2002 in an effort to revitalize the place - this ultimately failed. In 2006 the last 6 tenants were forced to leave by the city after the mall was facing foreclosure and power and utilities being shut off. The city of Green Bay gained ownership of the property from a settlement with the mall owners in 2006. The mall has not been open since.
