     History
The Belleville mine is in remote Telephone Canyon, seven miles east of Sodaville on the west side of the Pilot Mountains. The mine was first located for gold by Chas. Woodward (also referred to in a different source as Charles Woodruff) in 1927, who sold the property and its four claims to O.J. (or A.J.) Belleville of Mina in 1928. Belleville soon constructed a mill consisting of an Ellis ball-mill, amalgam plates, and a 1/2 size Campbell & Kelly table. Water for milling was piped 700' from a well nearby, and later was brought from the mine itself. By 1931, 120 tons had been milled, with 35 tons of high-grade ore being shipped on the Southern Pacific to the American Smelting & Refining Company in Selby, California for a yield of $15,000. The mine workings consisted of about 550' of tunnels, drifts, and stopes. Even at this early stage of development, state geologists who examined the property stated that it could be a small scale operation at best, doubting that the high-grade ore could be sustained, and even doubting that the costs of development could be recouped.

In 1932-33, the Russell Gold Mining Co. operated the property and produced $27,000 worth of ore. In 1936, the mine was under bond and lease to F.C. Marquiss and associates. Development now consisted of 3,000' of workings in five tunnels and a 5-ton Straub amalgamation mill, with preparations being made to erect a 25-ton mill.

That is the last report on the mine's operations until October 1970, when North American Exploration, Inc. of Reno conducted a survey and assays of the old mine workings. They likely felt that conditions were favorable for redevelopment and are probably the company that built the current mill and conveyor. It is unknown how long mining lasted in this most recent effort, but it is unlikely that it was very successful, owing to a lack of data on these operations. The mine probably shut down for good before the start of the 1980s.
