 Overview
 Description
It has been demolished recently. Here is the description of it before demolition:

There are several buildings on the campus. Most are abandoned, though some are still in use. One of the easiest buildings to access is what seems to be the education/recreation building. This place has been severely trashed by local kids, but it's still an interesting place. All of the buildings that are abandoned have boarded up windows. Be careful when walking around the buildings - most of the windows are smashed, so there's broken glass around the perimeter of every building. The basement of the education/recreation building is completely flooded out.

     History
From the "official website" of the Maryville Academy:
"Originally called St. Mary Training School for Boys, Maryville was established in 1883 on 880 acres north of Des Plaines, Illinois. The first Archbishop of Chicago, Patrick Feehan, created the school as a home for boys - mostly orphaned and roaming the streets of Chicago. The idea was to give these youth an education and the opportunity to learn a trade that would serve later in life.

As times changed, so did St. Mary's. The orphanage became co-educational in 1911 and eventually included a grade school and a four year high school, both of which operated through the late sixties. Through epidemics, world wars and economically difficult times, Maryville was always there for children in need."

There seems to be varying explanations as to why this place was shut down: asbestos, poor management, increasing acts of violence, and sexual assault.

Part of the Academy was reopened in 2006.
