 Overview
 Description
The Valley, also known as Valley of the Ghosts, has quite a few remains of ghost towns which were occupied during the same time as Sandon. Sandon is by far the most famous and intact, however a keen eye and a bit of research will help you find the more obscure, and challenging town sites. There are also many historic towns that never met the ghost town fate, and are well preserved such as Kaslo & New Denver.
Sandon is home to a handful of residents, and it is asked that you respect their privacy and property. I'm sure casual conversation could lead to a wealth of information.

     History
Sandon is a perfect example of boom to bust. It was here and pretty much gone in 20 years. It was built upon the discovery of silver lead ore in 1891. It was incorporated from 1898 until 1920 but was used during the 1940's to intern 1000 Japanese/Canadian during world war II. It was one of several internments in the Slocan Valley.
It was known as the Monte Carlo of Canada. In it's heyday it had a population of 5000 people which included everyone from miners to millionaires. It had 29 hotels, 28 saloons, 3 breweries, 3 churches, a school, hospital, cigar factory, one of the largest red light districts in western Canada, including 85 bordellos, and much more. The city was nearly destroyed twice. A fire in 1900, and a wash out in 1955. Rapid depletion of resources led to the towns rather quick demise. Many buidings still remain and are being preserved.

     Future Plans
Sandon will be preserved. Remains throughout the Valley will continue to be taken back by nature.

Japanese/Canadian internment camps. A very shameful part of the areas history. BC's beloved environmentalist David Suzuki was interned at Lemon Creek with his family.
