 History
Originally built in 1831, the McCulough house was once the home of a prominant Murfreesboro family that owned a sizable plantation. During the Civil War battle of Stones River in 1862, the McCulough house was used as a headquarters for General Hardee of the Confederate Army of the Tennessee. The house was obviously considered historically significant. The federal government thought so and during the building of interstate 24 in the 1950s, the road was diverted to prevent the demolition of the house. Unfortunatly, private owners did not think so. The house, which became run down, was last used as a photography studio before its demolition by apartment developers in November 2006.
