Built in 1929, its original use was office buildings, and it was known as The Broadway Building.
Since the 80's it was a Renaissance Hotel, with a restaurant downstairs and upscale accommidations. In 1988, Alan Spitzer bought the building, and renovated it and renamed it the Spitzer Plaza Hotel in 1994, changing the restaurant name to "The Broadway Cafe".
In 2002, a noted drop in business forced the Cafe to shorten hours to weekends only. When the Ford plant shut it's doors in 2005, it also spelled the end for Spitzer's hotel. It now sits closed, waiting for a revitalization.

Spitzer is hoping to reuse the building, but not sure if it'll continue on as a hotel, or possibly as condos or an assisted living facility.
