The open stalls where locomotives were serviced, some office areas still have stuff in them. There's a metal plate in the floor in one part with a big hole in it, whatever is under there is flooded. This is one of only 3 roundhouses in North Carolina. The other two are at Spencer (NC Transportation Museum) and Asheville (Norfolk Southern Corp).

This was formerly the Greensboro Roundhouse owned by the Southern Railway Company. At one point Greensboro was a railroad hub with the Southern Railway and the Atlantic & Yadkin Railway crossing near Elm Street. This was once an 18-stall roundhouse that serviced steam locomotives running out of Greensboro's Pomona Terminal. It sits in the middle of a "wye" track. At once time, there was also a large turntable used to turn locomotives. After railroad service, it was sold to Myers Brothers Scrap Metals and was used as a scrapyard until the late 1990's when it was closed. It is on the NRHS Historical Structures List.

This is a historic building, so there has been talk of restoring it as a museum, but due to the poor overall condition of the building it's unknown if that will happen.
