     History
Found deep within Point Pleasant Park, Cambridge Battery is wearing away and slowly being reclaimed by the Park.

Cambridge Battery was built during the 1860s and situated back from the Point Pleasant and Northwest Arm batteries along the shore. It was approved in 1862 and completed in 1868. Cambridge Battery itself was covered by the Prince of Wales Tower, further north in the Park.

The battery was named in honour of the Duke of Cambridge, who was the professional head of the army during much of Queen Victoria's reign.

The battery was disarmed by the time of the First World War.

During the 1960s, much of Cambridge Battery was entombed.

In February 2010 municipal crews cleared trees and overgrowth from the battery.

Several walls at Cambridge Battery will be entombed in Spring 2011 "as a way to preserve deteriorating and unstable" structures.
