Flat mud roof supported by log vigas. Still owned by a Hindi family member, but then again GIS data shows most properties in town are owned by a Hindi descendent! 07.2022 - The building sports fresh paint and lettering on the exterior, new doors, and locked shutters on the window openings. Walls are plaster and lathe strip. Hindi's store was originally Ortega Saddlery, according to long time locals. When the horseless carriage came in, so did the store, opening in 1908 It apparently operated until the early 1960's, at which time Mr. Hindi died. Since then it has been sitting silently, waiting on another lease on life. If somebody doesn't hurry, the old place will be gone. Forgotten Landmark tells a different beginning. I would lean toward quoted locals above, but who knows: "Built in 1908, this is the earliest mercantile building in town. It first housed the Duran Mercantile Company and later the Wm.
