Abandoned neighborhood consisting of Italianate Rowhouses (oddly enough partitioned into apartments rather than residences) and a Hotel arranged on three streets. The area was originally undergoing renovation which came to a halt. Since then scrappers have plundered the buildings for their copper plumbing leaving holes in walls, floors, and ceilings.

Built some time in the 1880's this neighborhood of Italianate style rowhouses constructed in a topographical depression probably originally housed the middle class as the buildings show no evidence of ever being single homes but rather are divided into one apartment per floor. The district's residents staged Cincinnati's first rent strike in 1964, protesting filthy conditions. The hotel and row houses were renovated in the 1970s. They became a model for reclaiming a neighborhood, winning local, state and national awards. Shortly afterward they went into another tailspin throughout the 1980's and 90's. A few years ago this building and the five others that make up the Glencoe Apartments were a hot spot for drugs -- so much so that Cincinnati City Council considered putting a street camera on this semi-isolated block. The neighborhood has won recognition as a historic landmark. In April 2013, demolition of "the Glencoe Hole" began. A parking garage for University Hospital may occupy the site.
