     History
After copper was discovered in the area in 1860 by Hiram Hughes, the town of Grasshopper City was formed. The name was later changed to Telegraph City when telegraphs were put in place connecting Stockton to Big Trees. The town soon became an important mining center, with a hotel, stores, and other businesses serving the mines nearby. As the copper market began declining in the late 1860's the town began to see some decline as well, and by the 1880's and 1890's farms were beginning to take over. This is all the info I have at the moment.
