 Overview
 Description
A tower which housed the 1000 horsepower elevator that went down into the mine about 430 meters (1000+ feet). If you think that is deep, the deepest part of the Shime Coal Mine is up to 600 meters (~2000 feet). It is a very tall and unique reinforced concrete structure. Its design shows well of its era that it was built in.

     History
In 1889, the old navy opened up the first pit in present Sue Cho in the Kasuya coal field was opened up. After that more and more pits begin to open. The miners needed a way to get coal from the mine up and topside. Since the mines were fairly deep, 1000+ feet, they needed something to haul a lot of coal, go really deep, and something with a lot of power. They decided to build a pit tower. he pit tower houses a 1000 horsepower elevator that can go up and down the pit mine. It allowed for easy removal of unneeded rock and it also made it possible to bring up the coal. Overall, the mine company just abandoned this mine and moved on to another one. Currently this building is abandoned. I think this is the last building of its type left in the world.
