In 1934 the Gold Reserve Act sent price of gold from $20 to $35 an ounce, prompting a revival of mines at nearby Skidoo and Harrisburg. In March of that year Roy Journigan and some partners filed first claim to the site, and built a huge mill to process all the new gold. He chose the location based on the high amount of springs nearby to tap into. The mill had a capacity to treat 25 tons a day of ore, and was the largest around. It had a stamp mill, a cone-type ball mill, a crusher, amalgamation plates, and cyanide treatment. Roy sold the mill in 1939. The site remained busy for years, undergoing several changes in ownership and renovations. When the mill finally closed in 1967, it had been the longest running mill in all of Death Valley.
