Typical old western style building. Follows the Modern Victorian style. Depot itself is an excellent example of a Rock Island RR station. Also the only one in its original location. Other mainline depots & their fates (west to east): * Falcon depot demolished. * Peyton depot was moved & incorporated into a church in Calhan. * Simla's depot removed to Byers, a private home. * Matheson's depot demolished. Huge trestle remains just E. of Matheson. * Resolis never had a depot, just a flag stop. * Limon's Union Depot is now the Limon Heritage museum. Shared with UPRR while in operation. * Stratton Depot is now a diner, near I70. * Burlington depot was moved, converted to local museum.

Example of Old Western transportation and was the starting point for the town of Calhan. Calhan was founded, due to water being easy to access at the Depot's location, and being exactly midway (6,502ft elevation / approx 35mi both ways) between Colorado Springs and Limon. Depot is in process of being restored by volunteers to original beauty and functionality.

Was a mid-way point for rail passengers. Depot also provided day and night Telephone / Telegraph connections to Limon and Colorado Springs, Colorado. Passengers, livestock and goods were transported along the route. Railway was built in 1888 and station in Calhan (in its current form) was built in 1910. In 1994, the tracks were removed for scrap from a point east of Marksheffel Blvd in Colorado Springs, to the diamond @ UPRR's K-P Mainline in Limon, CO. In 2016, the depot was sold by the Town of Calhan to the Rocky Mountain Railroad Heritage Society for the purpose of full restoration and conversion into a regional railroad museum / park. In addition, interested parties are encouraged to contact the RMRRHS at +1 (303) 269-9768 if able to assist or volunteer.

Since 2016, restoration efforts have primarily been of a stabilization nature, to avoid further decay. The green and white color scheme previously shown, was typical of the defunct Cadillac & Lake City RR when they took control of railroad operations in the mid 1980s.
