     History
After the completion of the Trans-Continental Railroad and the emergence of Stockton as a major rail hub, rail stops began sprouting up all along the rail lines around stockton. These were places where the local farmers could sell their produce, such as grain and grapes, as well as places for the rail crews to come and relax. Avena was one such rail stop, along the Sante Fe railroad south of Stockton. It consisted of a general store/train station, and several other buildings. Based on the "California" brick I discovered, I can surmise that this rail stop was made after 1912, as that is when the California brand opened its factory in Alameda county. As with most rail stops however, this one eventually fell. I'm guessing this one didn't last for more than two decades.
