     History
This 38 story building (roughly 450 feet) opened in 1964. It was and is the tallest building in Memphis. The building houses the Union Planters Bank, whose giant UP sign became a fixture of the city skyline. When the tower opened, it boasted a revolving restaurant, the "Top of the 100 Club," which also featured a pool and rooftop Japanese garden.

The garden closed in 1971 and the 100 Club was eventually replaced with another restaurant, "The Pinnacle." While the joint still revolves, the Pinnacle passed on and the space is now mothballed and vacant.

In December of 2005 work began removing the UP letters, as Union Planters (who no longer had offices there, but still) had been bought out by Regency.

     Future Plans
The UP BANK sign has been taken down. The revolving restaurant is vacant but functional, should a restaurant want the space. The rest of the building houses perfectly active offices.

On 8/21/23 it was announced that the city has approved a loan to the owner/developer to demolish this building.
