     History
This was originally built as part of a realignment and modernization of US 1 in the early 50s. For a few years it was known as Route 1, and the "Old Route One" changed to Route 17. When the Interstate Highway System came along, this became 95, and Old Route One reverted back to...Route 1...This highway was widened [to 4 lanes on each side with breakdown lanes] in sections from the mid 60s thru the mid 70s, and when the project was done this section was closed off after the a stretch of the route was realigned...
The Northbound lanes are all that remains, for some reason the asphalt for the Southbound lanes was stripped up, then the job was halted after that. There are trees growing where the asphalt was removed.
It still has alot of the lane lines intact, although test painting was conducted here. There are no signs but a mile marker is left behind in the bushes, and there are old-style cable guard rails, with manholes and some short tunnels as well.

     Future Plans
Developers wanted to put an office park in the large wooded area next to it, and use this highway section as the access road. Haven't heard much news on that though. It is now used as a nature trail so that may help prevent it.
