  •  Interesting Features
The whole place sprawls over several many acres. Although it sits on a moderately used street, once inside the main group of buildings, you are unseen and can wonder about pretty freely. There is a number of other business behind the plant. There is a boat in the middle of the complex, just sitting there, kinda strange. Still much to see.

Summer of 2006, it was knocked down to make way for some newer industry.

     History
This place was one of the biggest manufacturers of asbestos brake pads. I remember smelling that awful smell when I was in high school in this town. Raybestos ended up in and out of litigation for asbestos cases, and ultimately - bankruptcy. Pheonix Group has purchased the property, and plans to clean it up to use again as industrial land.

    Update 7/2006:
    Demolition has begun.

    As of 10/10:
The administration building and laboratory building still stand. The admin. building is being renovated, while the laboratory is actively used. The area where the industry used to be is now a car tune up place. Some buildings still sit empty.

     Future Plans
In December 2000, most of the Raymark property was purchased by Phoenix Group, who plans to clean-up the site and re-develop it for industrial use. A Consent Order and Agreement was signed by Phoenix Group and PADEP on January 25th, 2001. Through this Consent Order,
Phoenix Group agreed to implement the post-closure plan for the RCRA-regulated landfill and achieve an Act 2 standard, or combination of standards, for most of the remainder of the property. The landfill was certified closed by PADEP on December 20, 2000. Periodic groundwater monitoring is continuing. Final Reports under the Act 2 Program were submitted to PADEP in January 2003, for the Lower Mill Area and Upper Mill Area. On April 11, 2003, PADEP approved the Report on the Lower Mill Area.
