     History
It started as a small tannery in Mr Thomas Bouchard house in 1920..Slowly they spread , adding parts to the house. Around 1935,the sons join their father then name the tannery"Bouchard et frère" en 1941.Their speciality were harnesses, halters, straps (everything for the working horses) and school bags. When the machinery replaced horses in agriculture, all the tanneries had to change vocation.A lot of them died while others opened their fields...hand bags, fancy belts, shoes, boots etc, expanding and using bigger machinery. At one point, the tannery was sold to "les entreprises Boucher" sometime after 1982 and before 1996,year that the tannery moved to St-Pascal with a branch in Ville St-Laurent.The grand-son of Thomas Bouchard still has a leather workshop in the vincinity..I am still waiting for infos about all the major changes throughout the life of this leather place.

     Future Plans
It seems that the present owner is waiting for a grant or any "help" for decontamination (as a tannery is highly
pollutant).Condos or/and a small museum and/or a "resort" are on the future plans' table...

Update 2020 : After many thoughts for museum and interpretation centers.. but a total lack of good will, vision and money, plus 25 years of neglect resulted in the condemnation of that wonderful perfect place. It's now under demolition. It could have been an extraordinary historical museum of hancraft of patrimonial immaterial high interest.

A book is being made by historians about this tannery, to be out this autumn. Will be very interesting
