A heritage group hoping to save Pontypool's grain elevator needs the City's help in having the structure declared a historic site.
Kathleen Morton from the Friends of the Pontypool Elevator is asking the municipality to designate the 100-year old structure as a historic site. Ms Morton, who spoke to the works committee Tuesday, also asked the City to carry the liability insurance for the elevator.
She said that such insurance is needed for a lease agreement with Canadian Pacific Railway, which has given the elevator to the group.
CPR, which had once hoped to remove the building from its present site had a change of heart and wants the elevator designated, Ms Morton said.
"(CPR) will do anything in their power to let this happen," she said. "This is a piece of Canadian heritage that the City of Kawartha Lakes really needs to have on their plate."
