1848 - The James Lee House is built as a two-story farm house built by William Harsson. 1852 - Charles Wesley Goyer bought the house from his father-in-law. 1853 - Goyer makes additions, including a tower and a third floor. 1873 – Goyer makes exterior improvements, unifying the appearance of the original home with the additions from 1853. 1890 – After raising 10 children in the home, Goyer sells to James Lee, Jr. 1925 – The house becomes the property of Lee’s daughter Rosa, who donates it to the city to be used as The James Lee Memorial Art Academy. 1929 - The city of Memphis takes ownership, and it becomes the Memphis Academy of Art. 1959 – The house goes vacant when the college moves to Overton Park. 2008 – The vacant home is used by Canadian indie rock group Tokyo Police Club in a music video for the 2008 song "In a Cave." 2013 - José Velázquez and his wife, Jennifer, partner with J.W. Gibson and his wife, Kathy Buckman Gibson purchase the home with plans to restore it. 2014 - The James Lee House opens as a boutique bed and breakfast.
