The approach to Baron Hill, down a mile long stretch of heavily overgrown driveway, adds a sense of excitement to the visit. Structures are visible hidden in the undergrowth in the former gardens and the mansion itself can be occasionally glimpsed through the trees. Woodland now surrounds the mansion and a real sense of discovery is felt when the main building is finally within vision and its size and grandeur can be appreciated.

Baron Hill is an extremely large mansion & estate, situated on the outskirts of ********* on the Island of Anglesey in North Wales. Originally built in 1618 for the Bulkeley family, it was remodelled into the Neo-Palladian style in 1776 by the architect Samuel Wyatt. It remained the Bulkeley family home until sometime in the 1920s, when they moved to more modest accomodation and the mansion was then used for storage. When World War II broke out, the Government requisitioned it and it was used as a billet for Polish soldiers. The Polish soldiers were unhappy with the large, cold rooms and decided to start a small fire, so that they would be rehoused in more comfortable accommodation. The resulting blaze destroyed a large part of the main building's interior. The soldiers were rehoused - but into portable huts in the mansion's grounds. The mansion has been abandoned ever since the war ended and has gradually decayed further.

Considering its size and former importance as home to one of North Wales' most important families, there is very little information available about Baron Hill's history.

Developer has bought the location and is hoping to restore the building into apartments.
