Nastiest stuff imaginable. Chemical factory segment has very foul odors that even a mask won't hide; coke processing area that is so grimy heavy gloves are required; many smaller rooms; a locked room with toxic barrels hidden inside (supposedly); collapsing buildings; railcar structures, MUCH more.

Was formerly part of a steel mill (several owners, the most prominent being Detroit Steel). The steel mill part closed in the late-1980's and that part was torn down for a Wal-Mart complex in the early 1990's. The coke plant operations became part of New Boston Coke Corp. before being bought out in 2000 by some company that let it rot -- then came the labour disputes which ended the operations at the plant in 2002. Wal-Mart was slated to demolish the property in spring 2004, but since it is listed now as a Superfund site and has MANY dangerous toxins, that will not happen for a few more years possibly... Wal-Mart is moving its operations 1/2 mile down and abandon a half-dead strip mall. What progress...

One half of the former steel mill was demolished for a Wal-Mart in the early-1990's. Now the rest of it will be demolished for a Wal-Mart in 2005. UPDATE: All but the central structure remains.
