     History
On 1 May 1925, the Detroit Railway and Harbor Terminals Company issued $3.75 million in bonds towards the construction of a 12-acre terminal warehouse and related facilities. Construction of a ten-story, 900,000 square feet building, of reinforced concrete, was the largest on the Great Lakes when it opened on 15 March 1926. The building was designed by Albert Kahn and his firm.

Detroit Harbor Terminals ceased use of the majority of the warehouse in the late 1980's

The Boblo Island Amusement Park used the dock as a ferry stop until they stopped ferry service in 1991. Hence the "Boblo Island" advertisement on the side of the building. The building itself was never associated with Boblo Island Amusement Park, but it continues to be known today as the "Boblo Island Detroit Dock Building"

The last owner Detroit Marine Terminals, Inc., ceased all operations in 2003, although by the pics in this post it appears operations likely stopped earlier.

In 2006 the Detroit Port Authority took ownership and announced plans to open it for "enhanced storage and handling operations of bulk commodities", but scrappers had mostly stripped it clean at that point and plans never came to fruition.

On October 28th, 2008 a 2-alarm fire broke out on the 5th floor of the warehouse.

For the first time in years, in 2012 new fencing was erected and doors/windows are boarded up.

     Future Plans
The Port Authority has stated it wants the "nuisance property" demolished, but does not have the financing to back it...
