At first glance it looks to be a small apartment complex. Other buildings look older, made of stone and brick. Sits back off the road.

The large building with the pool was pretty cool. At the end of that same building, in the end furthest away from the other buildings, there are some really cool rooms where the ceiling has rotted entirley through, and there are alot of lights hanging by wires from the ceiling, it's eerie. The whole place is made-up of several small buildings. Many nooks and crannies to check-out. You may have to force yourself through some boarded up windows or doors. The rooms were large & very nice at that time. The dining room was very nice also. There was a seperate area from that which was a bar room with a bar & tables there.

not sure when this place was built. We found records from the eary 1970s. It appears to have been abandoned sometime in 1989. Was once owned by Mickey Rooney. It was one of the first motel/resorts in the area known as the Conestoga Motor Inn; .... Later in the '70s it became a Sheraton for a few years. It was almost a religious retreat (the Baptists bought it) and Shawnee tried to develop it-- problem is no sewer and major problems with the septic system. It was also owned by the motorcycle club the Pagans for a few years in there. Late 80's early 90's. The Pagans were trying to legitimize and did well until some legal problems involving DUI with bar patrons. The liability costs got too much and it was sold. It has been "vacant" ever since. Drug and Alcohol program Chit Chat aka Caron FOundation tried to buy it, Manheim Township did not want druggies in treatment . The building was also subject to frequent vandalisms. Drug parties were caught there over the years. Demolition began in June of 2007.
*The windows were boarded up between the 2 days that we visited.....Be Extremely careful it is definately patrolled!

Currently being demolished after numerous complaints and code violations about unsafe conditions - future plans still uncertain. ------ Teardown begins at site of former Shawnee hotel Lancaster New Era Published: Jun 17, 2008 09:05 EST By CHAD UMBLE, Staff
While plans for the former Shawnee hotel site in Manheim Township are still up in the air, the old buildings have started coming down. Crews began working last Monday to level the remaining structures on the 28-acre site between Routes 222 and 272, just north of Oregon Dairy. Vacant since 1989, the resort opened as Conestoga Motor Inn and has also operated as Sheraton Conestoga, Conestoga Resort Inn, Shawnee Lancaster and Lancaster Farms Resort. Richard Hurst, who has owned the property since 2005, said he doesn't know exactly how long it will take to tear down the buildings, but estimated that the work will be mostly done by the end of July. Hurst has formerly considered building an adult community or high-rise condominiums on the property. Now, he said there's "nothing in granite" regarding his plan, and it could be up to a year before he submits a formal proposal. In the meantime, Hurst said the crumbling buildings had become difficult to secure and were a magnet for vandals or thieves. Just last month, two men were caught allegedly stealing copper wire from the site. "It has just become a liability," Hurst said. The complex dates to 1950 when Carl E. Pyle built the 20-room Conestoga Motor Inn. Later, the resort operated as a Sheraton, but lost that affiliation in 1984 and was rechristened Shawnee Lancaster Resort in 1986. After it closed in 1989, the property changed hands several times, with failed proposals to turn it into a Christian conference center, a supermarket or a sanitarium.
