Location DB > United States > California > Marin County > Fort Cronkhite > Nike SF-88C Gallery Description This is the remains of the former Nike missile San Francisco protection zone site 88 Integrated Fire Control (IFC) facility, located atop Wolf Ridge. In Nike vernacular, this is "SF-88C." It's where the target search/acquisition/tracking and missile tracking/control RADARs were. The actual control equipment & personnel were located in little white vans that were mounted on precisely leveled concrete pads because the system was designed to be transportable, yet obviously there were a lot of support structures using permanent construction materials & techniques. SF-88C remained in operation until the Army shut down SF-88 around 1974. As with SF-88L, the Army left SF-88C mostly intact so that they could be turned into a museum, but the remote location atop Wolf Ridge & the access road washing out meant that only SF-88L -- the launch batter area about a mile away from SF-88C, would be a museum. In the 1970s & 1980s, NPS used SF-88C for a radio repeater location & as a weekend youth-camp site.
