Great pics you made that place look awesome! I think that ballroom would be a great place to get married. Do you have any information on when it was active, how long its been abandoned and why the business went under?

The Witley/Lea Park estate has been around since 1560 in name, but the features photographed here were put in place around 1890 when Victorian mining millionaire James Whitaker Wright purchased the place and put his stamp on it. After his death the estate was split and sold off, the mansion and landscaped gardens and woodland were sold in 1905 to the designer of the SS Titanic, Lord Pirrie, for £1,000,000. The mansion was destroyed by fire in 1952, only the stable block survived. More recently the new house, gardens and woodland were in use as a conference centre, which closed in late 2005.

The Underwater feature beneath the lake was listed in a publication about Victorian follies as an 'underwater ballroom', though it is generally accepted that it was a billiard/smoking room. The site is now privately owned and recently some measures were made to deter people from visiting. The lake and it's associated features have been maintained, are in private ownership and so aren't really what you'd class as abandoned.
