Gem Movie Theater, Magna, Utah < on 11/22/2006 5:16 AM >
The Gem is one of two old theaters in historic downtown Magna. The theater closed sometime in the 1970s. Afterwards, the theater was damaged by fire and has sat vacant ever since. The marquee, as rusty and old as it may be, still survives. The Gem theater is located at 8950 West 2700 South in downtown Magna.
According to the shop attendant at the Corner Market down the street, the theater is owned by a local resident. Many years ago the owner's son tried operating it as a theater, then decided to rent it to a local band as a practice studio. A fire damaged the building around 1985 and it has sat vacant ever since.
Does anything know more about the Gem Theater? I would love to have a look inside. Magna City is in the process of revitalizing their main street and many old buildings have either been torn down or fixed up. If you have any information on the Theater please post. Thanks.

I always wondered about that place too.an old time resident told that they used to show porn. There was a sign from a realtor on the building that said available I thought abought calling and appearing interested in the property. It looks locked up pretty well and no electricity.

I recall hearing a rumor once that the signs on it that had to do with bowling were put there for the filming of an episode of "Touched By An Angel." But that may just be hearsay, or I could be completely crazy.
