|  | | | Do you know a way to get past LW Products Co. grating hatches? There are holes for LW "keys" but I don't know where to get them. Maybe you have an idea? I should've taken pictures, but I don't have an appropriate camera.

That lid in my photo leads into a small sewer, so I'm not trying everything to get in. However it is nice to find out if I can open those.

Newer on surface high voltage transformers have a padlock as a lock and a pentagon bolt recessed inside a cylinder as the access handle. You can also find them on access hatches next to transformers.
Water authorities have them on curb shut-off valves and some manholes that isn't really explorable. My understanding of the purposes is to prevent people from turning on water after its been shut off and preventing illegal dumping by opening the lid.

I did it with a flat blade screwdriver, but there's a better way, I'm sure. Also, the one I opened was wired with something, I didn't stick around to find out if it was an alarm though that's the only thing that comes to mind.
