|  | | | anyone been out to oak knoll naval hospital lately? I went the other day and got spooked by seeing 3 cop cars flying right by with lights blazing. Im not a full member, can anyone help me out with any details in a pm or e-mail? I made my way in the other day well enough , but came around a road and saw cops a-gogo. We left. . Anybody know about security patrols or alarms? Hospital entry? Im going to go 2 night and see whats up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

there are people who live in the main hospital.
There are also many other great buildings and places to explore on the site. I did find a camper that also looks like someone may be living in (it's near the indoor pool).
As far as cops, were they within the 200 acre site? inside the fenced area? or just driving by one of the streets on the outside of the fence?
No alarms anywhere that I have found on the site.

| | | | SOLD! The property was just sold to SUNCAL development for $100 million. Developers plan on demolishing all structures for single family homes, condominiums and store fronts. Enjoy exploring while you can. Security is now on-site, and demolition is scheduled to begin early next year.

| | | | Yep, I remember about 2 or 3 months ago when the property was going up for sale and it seemed like this was the final time it was selling (there have been previous sales that fell through).
I went out there w/ several others members from UER at least 5 seperate times.
I knew this day would come. Guess it's dificult to explore now that there is security... I feel very fortunate to have taken hundreds of photos and hours of video from the many buildings on the 200 acre site.
I used to refer to this place as "Disneyland" because it is seriously huge and offers days and days of exploration. There was much I didn't see such as the supposed underground tunnel system, rumored nuclear fallout shelter and the bolling alley.
I spoke to several employees who used to work at the hospital including an ex security guard who worked there in the early 90's. He was the one who told me about the underground stuff. I did find a hatch but never explored it fully.
a sad day that this is all going away....

| | | | Yeah, the fuzz was definitely on the grounds. I saw 1 car, hid for awhile, came out of hiding, saw 2 more, lights blazing, so I left.

I may try to get out there again... I just don't want to drive an hour there only to find security all over the place.
I've actually been busy exploring 2 other areas and will post all my knowledge of them after I've explored them fully.
With all the emails i've been getting lately from people I do not recognize as infiltration members I've been pretty hesitant to post anything on this site. (I have posted one of the locations which is only viewable to full members)

As of March 21st:
On September 25, 2002, OBRA and the Oakland Redevelopment Agency filed a complaint in the United States District Court, Northern District of California against the United States Department of the Navy (“Navy”), challenging the Navy’s proposed sale of the former Naval Medical Center Oakland (“Oak Knoll property”). The lawsuit was filed to compel the Navy to transfer of a part of the Oak Knoll property containing 18 former officer housing units to the Agency pursuant to the requirements of the Base Closure Community Redevelopment and
Homeless Assistance Act of 1994.
On August 25, 2003, the District Court ordered the Navy to transfer the property at issue to OBRA and the Agency. Soon thereafter, the Navy appealed the District Court’s order, whereupon the matter was assigned to a mediator and has been continued pending the resolution of settlement negotiations. Since that time, OBRA and Agency staffs have been engaged in negotiations with Navy over the settlement terms. Staff has regularly updated the Governing Body regarding settlement talks during its closed session meetings. Staff has arrived at an agreement with the Navy, with the support and guidance of the OBRA and Agency Boards, and with the participation of Claudia Cappio (City of Oakland Director of Planning) and Councilmember/OBRA Board Member Larry Reid in a mediation session that took place on February 23, 2005.
Staff will present the details of the settlement agreement to the Governing Body in closed session on March 21. If the Governing Body gives its approval for the final agreement terms at that time, staff will present those terms in open session, and will ask the Governing Body to approve the resolution attached hereto.

As of December 5th:
The Navy’s auction of the 167-acre portion of the Oak Knoll property closed on November 4, and the winning bid was made by SunCal Companies of Irvine for $100.5 million. According to media reports, SunCal has announced that it is leaning toward building a mixed-use development with a variety of housing styles, a neighborhood commercial center and an open-space area that includes hiking trails. Oakland Redevelopment Agency staff has been working to prepare the Agency’s 5.5-acre parcel for sale, and has received several unsolicited offers to purchase the property. Staff intends to seek direction from the Agency Board regarding the future sale of the property.

| | | | I went there this afternoon. The huge central hospital building is still standing, I didn't explore really beyond it, so I can't say if the many other smaller buildings are around.
The building itself is very thoroughly boarded up, but there are still several access points (two of which I created). Some are sketchier than others, but if you're in decent physical shape it shouldn't be a problem. Just look around the building and you'll more than likely spot a few places to get in.
Inside the building is really incredibly eerie. The second floor is soaked for whatever reason; the carpet is completely wet and the ceiling is dripping, which makes for a very terrifying experience... not to mention the insulation on the floor and wires haging down and the absolute darkness of some areas. I made my way fairly directly to the roof, climbed up to a roof access hatch up the side of a wall with some pipes (it turns our that there was a stairway up on the other side of the building, but I didn't find it so I chose to use my buildering abilities to get up). The view from the roof was only mediocre, but the point of interest is that there were about 10 cars parked not 150 yards away from where I originally entered the building on the south side. I don't know what there were doing there, it didn't look like a demolitions or construction operation either.
In any case, I went back down the stairs and out. I was alone so I only had the nerve to stay about an hour or so. (plus I had no flashlight or weapon for reassurance). It was an impulsive trip to start with, and it ended up being a good experience.
For future explorers: bring a flashlight and respirator (I'm not sure if there was abestos in the insultion... but there probably was which means I'm going to die of lung cancer at age 30) try to bring a buddy too, it's seriously terrifying at some points in there, near the center of the building especially where there are long, wet, dark hallways and the wind is rattling blinds on broken windows and the water is dripping... I can't actually even believe I had the nerve to spend as long as I did in there.

It's rad you made it out there. I am scared to death of a patrol--I went alone in January(?) there was some truck rolling around and I couldn't get out fast enough. I'm harmless but until I know the protocol security is working off of, I'm not gonna risk anything.

interpretive dance with scarves for my funeral??? sounds very strange. I'd prefer a puppet show with guest appearance by a really really bad asian elvis impersonator. Oh and how about a stripper popping out of the coffin ...not sure if that's been done, but would certainly entertain those present.
the hospital itself becomes less creepy the more you explore it. In a strange way it becomes somewhat comforting... I have very fond memories of the hospital... they've become my warm fuzzy place in my head.

| | | | honestly the real truth w/ abestos is that it effects everyone differently. Usually large amounts of exposure, like working w/ the stuff daily will do serious harm.
we've probably all come in contact w/ abestos throughout our lives, but in small doses we are probably ok. That's not to say you shouldn't tempt fate... and expose yourself knowingly. -although many of us do while exploring.

| | | | Me and a few friends went to Oak Knoll last weekend.. there was a security patrol driving around sporadically but I think that's all they do, roll around the grounds. We got lucky/timed it right and got in and spent a few hours exploring before scooting back out. Security was more nerve-wracking than the hospital was, and is the reason we're probably not going back, even though we missed a lot of cool stuff. We came in on the 3rd floor and didn't figure that out until we were leaving, and we never really got into the interior of the building, mostly stuck to the edges. We're happy we got to explore it before it's gone though..
We got a pretty good shot of the building about 5 minutes before sunrise with a camera using nightshot settings.. I love the aura of this photo.

i wouldn't recommend it to highly, at this point. i lived next to it for a couple years, went there so many dozen times i lost count. wonderful site. huge and varied.
unfortunately, the last several times i have been there, there have been multiple guards and workers on site, even including a hundred or so goats currently penned on the facility for brush removal (i'm fairly certain they were anti-UE trained attack goats).
anyway, since they have started to assemble equipment on site, as well as bringing a larger portion back into daily use, there is stuff worth guarding there now. as it is a big site, you could probably go unnoticed with luck, but i would be at least prepared for the possibility of being caught, particularly if you haven't been there before. i stopped by late last week, and not only found guards at the gates, but lights on and trucks shuttling in and out of the main gate - and found that two or three of the most useful entrance points had been fixed/wired.
so, yeah, it's cool, and probably still doable, but increasingly risky as time goes on.
