Historic Oakhurst Home - Oakville

A basic member on another well known UE website found and posted a location this week, claiming it to be "very secure" Well this place is a hiccup from where I live...so I took on the challenge only to find no challenge. The POE looked at me and said "what are you looking at, just come in" To which I said...."okay"

The land seems to be owned by the ontario government and there may be some kind of restoration going on, very very slow restoration. The charm of this home is the staircase, they have preserved some walls inside but the staircase seems to be what they have left as is. There is a crawlspace basement and a cool attic/upstairs that smells like (and sounds like) Raccoon.

The exterior is beautiful, red brick, decorative wooden fixtures and original trees in the front that are being protected.

The home is known as "Oakhurst" or the "Inglehart Home", it was previously inhabited by William Cyrus Inglehart and family. Thanks to the Trafalgar Historical Society and Google I now know these things...

William Cyrus Inglehart (1823 – 1917)

"Oldest son of John Peter Inglehart and Elizabeth (Betsy) Fisher. William Cyrus was a farmer, Con 2, SDS, Lot 31, Trafalgar Twp, Nelson Cty. He built the house known as Oakhurst.
William Cyrus was married twice. The certificate for his first marriage, to Mary Bray, daughter of Mahlon Bray and Rachel Freeman, was found pasted in his son Herbert’s scrapbook. Herbert was the oldest son of his second marriage to Eleanor McLaren. William Cyrus’ and Mary Bray’s wedding certificate is glued into Herbert Inglehart’s red scrapbook. It reads:
“I hereby certify that on the twenty-ninth day of August in the year One Thousand Eight Hundred and forty-nine, William Cyrus Inglehart in the township of Trafalgar, in the Gore District, and Mary Bray in the Township of Trafalgar, in the Gore District, were married by me, Wellington Jeffers, a minister of the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Canada, which said marriage was Solemnized by Licence in the presence of John Bray and Cyrus Nixon.
Witnessed and signed by John Bray and Cyrus Nixon. Signed by W. Jeffers, dated Brantford, August 29th, AD 1849"

I won't take credit for this location as I did not find it, and my limited research is brought to you by google.... but here are my pics and some of the original pics I was able to find online.

I hope you like it!!!

It is really amazing in the first side-by-side to see the changes that have happened to the house over time. The porch completely disappeared, doorway bricked up, windows changed, and the entire wing extension on the right-hand side has been changed.

Too bad with the idiot "No" marking throughout the house. But all beautiful nonetheless.

Did it look like the "NO" was painted on the walls that someone didn't want gutted? Looks to me like the rest of the walls were tore out and maybe this was a way to tell someone to leave the ones where "NO" was painted.
