I'd be open to any place that has a LOT to do. There's going to be a lot of people, and will need to spread out to various sites. It would be my first Mamu so the city doesn't matter as much as the time of year... January would really be too cold wouldn't it? Inclement weather will jack with travel plans somewhere or other. The winter just here in Charlotte was nasty, and Raleigh had 6 inches in one day last January (or was it 8?) They even had snow in Atlanta and no equipment to deal with it! Everything grinds to a halt

Once you get up higher in western NC/VA/WV, though, it can get pretty bad. It's usually luck of the draw, though. I don't think anywhere in the region is inaccessible for the whole winter-- We'd only have to worry if a big storm happened to hit that weekend. So with that said, I'm cool with just about anywhere. Winter is my preferred exploring season. I like the idea of West Virginia, only because I'm familiar with the kind of exploring available out there. I could easily be persuaded to go south, though.
