| | Lasky Theatre - A Last Look.... < on 5/28/2009 12:55 AM >
| | | I just got back from a bit of urban exploring this evening. Demolition crews are tearing down the old Lasky Theatre. In more recent decades it was known as Lasky Furniture. Located just off of Davison Avenue and Joseph Campau, the structure was briefly used as a storage facility at the very end. I climbed over the barricades and snapped a few digital pics. That immediate stretch of area is known for car theft/vandalism, so I only stuck around for a few minutes. For what it is worth, these are probably the very last photos of (what is left of....) the old theatre/furniture store/storage facility. Farewell to another Detroit landmark!

| | | I was able to see a bit of the inside of the place just before they started tearing it down (the door was wide open) and it looked like it was pretty well gutted out.

Yeah, I think they rarely tear places down like that without taking all the good stuff out first. At least, they shouldn't. I've seen some really nice furniture and stuff in those buildings.

| | | What is REALLY weird (at least to me) is the items you find in abandoned buildings that seem totally out of place. I've seen abandoned cars and pianos in factories, sports equipment in office buildings, and paperwork of all sorts that you THINK would have been taken out.

At the Ypsilanti mental hospital, it looked like they had just up and left everything: furniture, USEFUL looking medical supplies (gloves, syringes, etc), electronic equipment, and yeah, a piano. I even found some old patient's files. That just seemed downright disrespectful.

| | | sunshinin, its funny you should say that because i ran into the exact same situation at the old North Detroit General Hospital. It is sealed off now, but I explored it last year w/ some other folks. We found x ray equipment, confidential patient records, vending machines, organ specimens in jars, hypodermics, blood slide samples, etc etc. Unreal!
