| | | I think they are all good pictures. #1: Horizon lines should never be in the middle or middle-ish of pictures. Remember the rule of thirds. I see where you were going with this picture with the reflection and all and is a great idea just needs better composition. #2: AWESOME. Only thing I would do would be to level out the lines. Make that windowsill a horizontal line and it would be perfect. #3: Another great shot. Maybe just a little contrast?

1. Symmetry is one exception to rule of thirds, unfortunately it's not symmetrical. I don't know how deep the water is, but if the OP could get closer and get more of the trees in the reflection it would improve the composition greatly. And there's prominent barrel distortion in 2 & 3.

| | | Thanks for the feedback, i see what you mean. As for the barrel distortion, I can improve that in PS right? I was using a sigma 10-22, I believe it's somewhat known for distortion

| | | So I took your advice(s), and tried to work on the third pic for practice. I boosted the contrast a little, and I tried to mess with the lens correction feature on PS. Do you suggest I use the automatic correction that CS5 has according my lens and camera, or should I play with the manual sliders? Here is the change, thanks again!

Use the default setting as a guide. You might need to correct for horizontal/vertical shifts too. Even if your camera is level in the horizontal/vertical ... you will increase barrel distortion if the camera is tilted forward or backward.. I like the built in CS4/5 lens correction tool.

Yes, I really like this one in terms of the colors and sparseness and symmetry, but the composition does need work. See what you think of a crop like this in comparison.
I'd put the horizon even a little lower then that if I could, and especially if the gradient of the sky were more gradual. [last edit 3/4/2012 8:43 PM by Dowcet - edited 2 times]

| | | I see what you mean. It's much more appealing to the eye. The left half seemed to make it feel unbalanced [last edit 3/5/2012 6:02 AM by Sceptic - edited 1 times]

| | | I love the second photo! I wish the needle weren't so close to the bottom though. Perhaps if it were a third of the way from the bottom, the photo would have better balance. Still a great shot!
