Where'd I go wrong?

Hmmm; for some strange reason I really love these shots, but i'm lacking the usual responses I get from all my pics, so I must have missed something along the way! I was trying to do something different than I normally do, too, but i guess it didn't work very well? Any feedback would be great.

Thanks!

I like all these shots, I see nothing wrong. I just think 6 has too little going on in some areas. Just typical cropping, there's a large amount of unnecessary blackness.

They're all a little too cramped, I would have used DOF to isolate a focus point.

Thank you both! I will keep your comments in mind as i'm shooting again this weekend!

I do understand what you mean about them feeling cramped; but, granted, i WAS pretty cramped when i was shooting them. I think i wedged myself into a 2foot by 1ft spot to shoot from underneath the generator; i just brought my camera down with me, hand held, and shot "from the hip", as I couldn't really move myself to see through the viewfinder or look at the live view screen on the back of my camera until I got out. i'll see what i can figure out to get one main focal point

The first few I can't even tell what they are. This separates me from the subject matter leaving only a pattern for me to look at. In other words, they don't hold my interest at all.
#6 has WAY too much black.
#7 and 8 are a little batter. I still think you need to back up more.

I like two, it should be cropped tighter, though.

I agree with them being "cramped". Theres no focus point and my eye is kinda wandering all over the picture waiting for something to pop out. A little bit of depth of field would help a lot. And possibly some slightly different angles and not as zoomed in (I did read your dilemma when taking them though and I guess theres nothing we can do about that).
I do like the cropped version of #2 and #8 tho - those are my favorites =)
